EMERGENCY services were called out to two people trapped in an overturned car in a country lane near Taunton late last night (Sunday, March 5).

Three other people in the vehicle had managed to free themselves from the vehicle before ambulance, fire and police personnel arrived on the scene of the incident in Kingston St Mary.

Firefighters, working alongside paramedics, used hydraulic cutting gear and small tools to release the other two occupants from the car in Parsonage Lane.

They were then taken by ambulance to Musgrove Park Hospital, in the county town.

No other vehicles were involved in the incident, which was reported shortly before midnight.

A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called out to attend an incident at 11.51pm on Sunday, 5 March involving a car on Parsonage Lane, Kingston St Mary, which had overturned onto its roof.

"Three passengers were already outside the vehicle when crews arrived.

"Two people were still inside the vehicle.

"We sent four pumps.

"Crews stabilised the vehicle and extricated the two people from the car using hydraulic cutting gear.

"Police and paramedics arrived on scene and our crews handed the (casualties) over to ambulance services and taken to hospital.

"We stood down at 1am."
