TRAVEL Somerset has now clarified that the road closure is in place between 9.30am and 3.30pm until Thursday (March 9). A spokesperson has apologised "for any confusion".
A MAIN street in Wellington town centre is closed due to an "emergency".
A section of Mantle Street will remain closed for "three to four days".
Travel Somerset publicised the closure on social media yesterday evening (Monday, March 6).
The action was taken to enable Openreach to restore broadband services to people in the area.
The social media post says: "Heads-up - Mantle St in Wellington is closed for emergency to allow @WeAreOpenreach to restore services to residents.
"We're told this may take 3-4 days."
An Openreach spokesperson said: “Our broadband and phone network in Wellington has been damaged by a third party and our engineers are working hard to repair it.
"Mantle Street was closed yesterday but has now been reopened; we’re currently working at Champford Mews which we expect to be closed until this Thursday when we hope to complete the work.
"We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank motorists and nearby businesses for their understanding while we restore these vital services."
