A PROPERTY fire in North Petherton is believed to have been started deliberately.

At around 10.10am this morning (Tuesday, March 14, 2023), Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received reports of a fire in a two storey property.

One woman was believed to be inside.

A spokesperson from the fire service says: "Ambulance and police were also requested by Fire to attend the incident due to the nature of this call."

"The cause of the fire was deliberate."

One fire engine from Bridgwater station and two from Taunton were dispatched to the scene.

Another fire engine from Wellington station was mobilised after crews arrived. An aerial ladder platform was also mobilised from Bridgwater.

Two firefighters tackled the blaze, which was located in a first floor bedroom, wearing breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets and one safety jet. Crews later increased the number of breathing apparatus wearers to four persons.

The woman rescued from the property was taken to hospital after suffering from smoke inhalation.
