A BREWING company has explained the reason behind the closure of a Taunton town centre pub.

The Racehorse Inn on East Reach recently “closed until further notice”, but  St Austell Brewery has now shared more details about the decision.

The operator running the pub “chose to downsize significantly”, St Austell said.

The company also added that they “are working very hard to find a new tenant”.

A spokesperson for St Austell Brewery said: “The Racehorse Inn was run by an operator who had several sites.

"Having completed an estate review, they chose to downsize significantly. "Unfortunately, the Racehorse Inn has been affected by this and is currently closed.

“We understand how important this pub is to the local community in Taunton, and we are working very hard to find a new tenant with a view to getting the Racehorse reopened as soon as possible.”

Somerset County Gazette:

A sign on the pub’s window said: “Dear customers, we are now closed until further notice. We apologise for the inconvenience.”

The Racehorse Inn has gone through a few changes in recent years, with new landlords taking over the pub in both 2020 and 2021.

The pub is currently rated a 4.2 on Google reviews and has had positive reviews as recently as November 2022.
