A TAUNTON-based family bakers have announced that they will be closing their doors after 46 years of business.

Barry the Baker, located on 42 South St in the town, started trading in 1977. The business was previously Tarrs Bakery, where Barry was the manager.

With the help of his sons, Jason and James, the bakery managed to evolve and remain popular with locals throughout the years.

This week will be the last week that the company is trading after James and Jason made the decision to retire.

As stated on the Barry the Baker website, the company has been providing a sandwich delivery service since the 1990's, delivering lunch to offices and homes throughout the town. This was especially useful during Covid.

The traditional craft bakery prides itself on sticking to authentic recipes and training their small team to appreciate the art of baking.
