HALSE Road is set to expect urgent drainage works starting from next week (April 3).
The road at Ash Priors, close to Bishops Lydeard, commonly suffers from surface water which runs off from a nearby common.
When temperatures drop, the water freezes, causing a hazard to motorists who often use the road to travel from village to village on the outskirts of Taunton.
A 250m section of the road will be closed from April 3 until 5 May.
Access to properties in the immediate area will be maintained throughout.
Somerset County Council’s lead member for transport and digital, Cllr Mike Rigby, said: “We're really pleased to be delivering these essential works which will make the road much safer.
“The current situation means the road can be very dangerous in wet and freezing conditions and this winter.
“There is massive long-term gain for road users and residents.”
