A MAN who groped another passenger on a train and then attacked two police officers at Taunton Station has been jailed.

James Russell Bruton, 38, was yesterday (Wednesday, April 5) found guilty of the offences by the bench at Taunton Magistrates' Court.

Bruton, whose address was given in court as Exeter Prison, sexually assaulted the woman on a train between Castle Cary and Taunton on March 31 last year.

After being found guilty at a trial, he was sent to prison for 16 weeks due to the serious nature of the offence.

He was also ordered to pay his victim £300 in compensation.

Bruton pleaded guilty after previously denying assaulting a police officer in the exercise of his functions at Taunton Station on the same date. He was jailed for nine weeks to run consecutively.

He received a further nine weeks concurrent imprisonment for a similar offence against another officer, meaning his total prison sentence is 25 weeks.

He was ordered to pay a total compensation of £350 to the two officers.
