SOMERSET residents can expect strong winds and heavy rain over the next few days, following a report by the Met Office.

This afternoon (Tuesday, April 11), there will be strengthening winds which will increase in severity as the day goes on. 

Those that live near the coasts could see severe gales.

There will be blustery showers spreading eastwards into the evening. Strong winds will remain. Motorists are reminded to drive carefully.

Tomorrow, it is expected that there will be strong winds and showers, with the risk of hail and thunder. 

Flood alerts are in force throughout England, especially on the coastline between Gore Point and Hurlstone Point including Porlock Weir.
