TAUNTON Town finished the National League South campaign in 14th place at the first time of asking.

In their 46 league games, they won 17 matches, drew 10 and lost 19 for a total of 61 points.

And they were in the mix for most of their games as well, scoring 50, conceding 55 for a goal difference of -5.

Their defensive record puts them in the top half of the table for goals conceded, an impressive effort.

Next season, the National League South will be made up in large parts of teams from the South West.

Obviously Taunton will be in the league once again, but they will be joined by Weston-super-Mare and Truro who have been promoted from the Southern League Premier Division.

As well as that, they will be joined by Torquay and Yeovil Town who have both been relegated from the National League.

That means that next season, with Weymouth and Bath staying in the division, there will be six sides all on the South West of the country.

It will make for many more local derby matches as well as build on already existing rivalries, Yeovil vs Taunton for example.

What may prove difficult for the smaller clubs of those six, is the already scarce pool of players available will now have to be split amongst more teams.

The 2023/24 season is sure to be an exciting one for football fans in this area of the country.
