A GROUP of EDF employees from Hinkley Point B are set to take part in a gruelling fundraising charity challenge in memory of a former colleague and friend.
Mark Boobyer, 44, tragically and unexpectedly died while travelling home from work to Taunton in early December 2022.
As a tribute to him, his fellow shift team members are tackling the Three Peaks Challenge to raise money for Josephine’s Star, a local bereavement charity that has been supporting Mark’s family.
The Three Peaks Challenge sees participants attempt in turn to climb the highest mountains of England (Scafell Pike), Scotland (Ben Nevis), and Wales (Snowdon).
During the challenge, the team will walk approximately 26 miles and climb a combined total ascent of 3,000 metres.
The intrepid team will be taking part in the challenge on Wednesday (May 10), and will be joined by Mark’s wife, Chloe, and their two sons Jack and Archie.

Wayne Reeder, one of Mark’s colleagues at Hinkley Point B, said: “Mark was a great part of our team. He got on well with everyone and would always do what he could for any of us.
"Ever since he passed it has felt like there has been a hole in our team.
“Several of us wanted to do something really positive to remember him. That’s when we came up with the idea of raising money for charity by taking part in the Three Peaks Challenge, as Mark had previously completed it and really wanted to do it again.
“We are not great hill walkers so the thought of scaling more than 3,000 metres in a day or so is quite an exciting challenge.
"We know it’ll be tough but we all really want to do what we can for Josephine’s Star because of the invaluable support they provided to Chloe and the family at an incredibly difficult time.
"Knowing that our challenge will help that charity help another family is something all of us feel strongly about.”
