A PUPIL at a village primary school near Taunton has made the top 30 in the country in a songwriting competition - for the second year running.

Finn Crabtree, 11, who attends Trull Primary School, will find out on Friday (May 12) if he has gone one step further and made it into the top 10 of the Song Academy Young Songwriter 2023.

He is among 900 entries in the nationwide contest and has been shortlisted in the eight to 12 year section.

Finn showcased his talents with a 30-minute performance at the Coronation celebrations in the park in Trull at the weekend.

His mum, Josie Crabtree, said: "I'm so proud of him.

"He's very creative and writes folk music all by himself and plays the guitar.

"We're a musical family. I used to play in a brass band and we listen to a lot of music. He's had a lot of musical influences in his life."

Left-handed guitarist Finn started out playing the ukelele and plays the guitar at school, where he has guitar lessons. His entry in the songwriter competition is called What A Day,

His younger brother Caleb, nine, plays a little guitar, although he has now started learning the trumpet.
