A FLOODING blackspot on the A38 between Wellington and Taunton is partially underwater following the earlier torrential downpours this afternoon (Tuesday, May 9).
The area was hit by heavy rain and thunder and lightning mid afternoon, leading to a number of mini floods.
This picture taken by former County Gazette reporter Alice Simmons shows the extent of the flooding on the A38 just past the Willowbrook Garden Centre near Wellington.
One driver's car was stranded at the side of the road.
Some vehicles chanced their luck by inadvisedly driving through the water on one side of the road.
The section of road is regularly flooded during heavy rainfall.
Meanwhile, firefighters from Taunton Fire Station were called to Milverton to assist homeowners who had been flooded.
Sand Street turned into a muddy river and became impassable, while children at the village primary school were held on site until the water subsided.
We hope everyone is safe and things soon return to normal. Take care out there.
