TWO people have been taken to hospital after a two-vehicle collision on the A303 near Sparkford.

The Sparkford Bypass was closed eastbound after the collision which took place yesterday (Tuesday, May 30).

The first reports from Travel Somerset said traffic was stationary after reports of a collision “involving a trailer crossing the central reservation”.

A statement from Avon and Somerset Police released yesterday said: "We were called at about 3.10pm and are currently at the scene. Recovery work is ongoing. Two vehicles involved in the collision."

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) said: “We were called at 3.05pm on May 30th to an incident in the Castle Cary area.

“We sent two double-crew land ambulances, an operational officer and a responding officer. Two individuals were taken to Yeovil District Hospital.”

A further update from the police said: "We were called to the A303 at Sparkford at around 3pm yesterday (Tuesday 30 May) to reports of a road traffic collision involving two vehicles.

"We believe no one was seriously injured.

"The road was closed while emergency services attended, and the road was cleared. It reopened just after 6pm."
