A TAUNTON primary school has appointed a new headteacher.

Matt Kerton steps up to the permanent role at Nerrols Primary School and Nursery.

He had previously acted as interim headteacher at the Richard Huish Trust school since January after the previous head left in December.

Before that, Mr Kerton had been deputy headteacher and interim headteacher at North Town Primary School.

He has also held a cross-trust school improvement role, where he demonstrated his ambition and readiness for a permanent headship.

Speaking of his appointment at Nerrols, Mr Kerton said, “I am honoured and delighted to be given the opportunity to continue to lead the fantastic community of children, staff and parents and carers at Nerrols Primary School and Nursery.

"From my first day here earlier this year, I have been made to feel so welcome by everyone and am in no doubt that this is a special place to be.

"It is truly an exciting and unique time for Nerrols as the school continues to grow and I am dedicated to pressing ahead with our priorities.”

John Abbott, chief executive of the Richard Huish Trust said: “I would like to congratulate Matt on his appointment.

"Matt has already demonstrated a deep commitment to the school and has already made a significant positive contribution to the school and its community.

"It is also great to see our professional development and succession plans come to fruition.

"This appointment highlights that many of our colleagues have the potential to be future school leaders and that with persistence, dedication and hard work, that can easily become a reality.”
