MOTORISTS are being forewarned of road closures and temporary lights during roadworks in the Langport area.

Resurfacing work on sections of the A378 North Street, in Langport, and the A372 Somerton Road, in Huish Episcopi, are being carried out by Somerset Council's highways teams from next month.

North Street preparatory work is due to start on Monday, July 17, and will last for five days, with two-way signals in place throughout.

The road will then be closed between 6.30pm and 11.30pm from Monday, July 24, for six evenings so the resurfacing can be completed.

The preparatory work for Somerton Road will run from Monday, July 24, for six days, also under two-way traffic signals.

The resurfacing will then commence with a road closure between 6.30pm and 11.30pm from Tuesday, August 1, with completion due on Friday, August 11.

While the roundabout at the north of the A372 is being resurfaced, signals will be in place.

Wales and West Utilities is conducting repair work on the A372 alongside these works, and they will control traffic using three-way signals.

The work is planned to run from Monday, July 10, to Friday, August 25.

They have been planned for the school holidays to prevent more work being carried out after the resurfacing is complete.

Cllr Mike Rigby, Somerset Council’s executive lead member for transport and digital, said: “Resurfacing roads that need it is a critical part of our summer programme. Residents will be aware both roads are in need of urgent repair.

“While there is some short-term disruption, these works in both Langport and Huish Episcopi will make journeys in the area safer for years to come.

"The team will do everything they can to carry out the work safely and successfully during the evenings to minimise disruption.

“We are working in partnership with Wales and West Utilities to ensure that all key works are carried out at the same time.”

Every effort will be made to maintain access for residents and businesses in the immediate area.

A diversion will be in place, with full details available nearer the time on www.somerset.gov.uk/roads-travel-and-parking/roadworks-and-travel/
