A TEENAGER from Taunton was killed by a knifeman in a random attack in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday, June 13).

Barnaby Webber, aged 19, a former student at Taunton School, was one of three people who died following a string of attacks in Nottingham.

The keen sportsman was reportedly attacked as he walked home after a night out with a friend.

A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder.

Barnaby's body was discovered in Ilkeston Road. The body of a young woman was found beside him in the same street, while a man in his 50s was later found dead in Magdala Street.

It is believed the culprit stole the last victim's van and drove into and injured three other people nearby.

A friend of Barnaby told the Daily Mail: "He was a friend of mine. He was just walking home from a club like we all do and got unlucky five minutes away from home."

Barnaby's father, David, 51, told a reporter who called at his home that it "wasn't a good time".

The Mail added that it believed Mr Webber, the director of an IT consultancy, called one of his son's flatmates in Nottingham to inform the fellow students of the tragedy.

Both Barnaby and the young woman killed alongside him were students at the University of Nottingham.

A student from the same halls of residence told the Mail: "Barnaby was a friend of mine. He was just walking home from a club like we all do.

"They just got unlucky. They were five minutes from home and stabbed by some random guy."

A spokesperson for The Old Tauntonians, of former Taunton School students, said: "Today Taunton School lost one of its newest alumni.

"Barnaby Webber was in Marshall (house), aged 19, at university and was killed in the Nottingham attacks.

"A wonderful young man with so much to look forward to.

"Our boys will miss you Barney. We live in an unkind world."

A spokesperson for Bishop's Hull Cricket Club, where Barnaby had played for a couple of seasons, said: "Today we learnt of the death of our dear friend and team mate Barnaby Webber.

"Barney was attacked at the early hours of this morning walking home with a friend after a night out on 13/06/2023 and had lost his life.

“'Webbs' joined the club back in 2021 and has since then been a key part of our club and made such an impact in such a short space of time.

"Playing more than 30 games for the club, scoring 622 runs, and taking 29 wickets, his memory will live on.

"As a club we would like to invite family, friends, club members and members of the village and public who wish to pay their respects and lay some flowers at the club."
