THOUSANDS of people are expected at the Somerset Armed Forces Day in Taunton this weekend.

A fun day for all the family is taking place in Vivary Park on Saturday (July 1).

The show is being opened at 10am when the free fall parachute team comes in to land.

There will be activities and entertainment throughout the day, including the all-terrain vehicle stunt team, cadet drills and Viking battles.

One of the highlights will be the Red Arrows flypast.

There will be music on the Tone FM stage throughout the day, including choirs and The Soldiers of Swing and Blitz Time Sally.

Side shows include a Viking encampment, military vehicles around the park and Star Wars storm troopers.

Dogs are welcome but must be kept on leads. There will be some loud bangs in the arena, but announcements will be made in advance.

There will be a number of food and drink concessions, although people are free to take their own food and picnics.

A spokesperson for the event said: "Somerset Armed Forces Day will be a chance to show your support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces.

"This year, we will join people across Somerset to say 'thank you' to members of the Armed Forces community, including current personnel, reserves, veterans, cadets and families, for their contribution to the nation.

Somerset County Gazette:

"Showing support for the Armed Forces provides a much-valued morale boost for the troops and their families.

"The Somerset Armed Forces Day committee are incredibly grateful to all our sponsors, especially Somerset Council, Taunton Council, Berrys Coaches, TEK Military Seating and, Service Graphics."
