A MAN on his way home in Taunton in the early hours of yesterday (Sunday, July 9) was attacked after being approached by a number of people.

The injured man was found by members of the public in the Priory Bridge Road area of the town at approximately 3am.

An area of Morrisons car park was sealed off and a forensics officer was at the scene later in the day.

Police attended the site following the incident and paramedics took the victim to Musgrove Park Hospital where he was treated for several facial injuries.

Officers are collecting evidence and have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson said: "At approximately 3am on Sunday 9 July an injured man was found by members of the public in the Priory Bridge Road area of Taunton.

"We understand the man was walking home at about 2.25am when he was approached by a number of individuals, both male and female, and assaulted.

"Officers attended the scene, as did paramedics who took the victim to hospital with several facial injuries.

"His injuries were not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

"CCTV footage from the surrounding area has been retrieved and is being examined as part of our ongoing enquiries to identify those responsible."
