POLICE are urging owner to keep their dogs on a lead after six sheep were killed and more than 30 injured in a dog attack.

Minehead and West Somerset Neighbourhood Policing team are appealing for information 1following the incident on a farm in Minehead last Thursday or Friday (July 6 or 7).

They say that four lurcher-type dogs were spotted "running freely" in the area.

A spokesperson for the team said: "Four lurcher-type dogs were seen running freely in the area without their owner on the Thursday night.

"It is an offence to allow dogs to worry sheep and we’re investigating the incident.

"As part of our inquiry, an appeal has been issued via Farm Watch – a scheme designed to reduce rural crime by increasing the flow of intelligence between agricultural communities and the police.

"Anyone who has information which could help the investigating officer are asked to phone 101 and provide the call handler with the reference 5223162085."
