FIRE crews tackled a blaze through the night at a commercial property outside Ilchester.

Yesterday night (Thursday, July 13), Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received a call from a member of the public reporting smoke issuing from the property.

Crews were called at around 9.35pm and were at the scene until this morning (Friday, July 14).

The fire spread throughout the commercial unit and breached through the roof and at that time there were seven fire engines at the scene.

Control immediately mobilised three fire appliances from Yeovil, Martock, and Somerton along with a supporting officer.

Whilst on route due to local knowledge crews requested a water carrier to attend which came from Yeovil.

Crews also requested a second water carrier to attend.

Around midnight, the service was still “at work to extinguish the fire and prevent the fire from re-igniting and escalating”.

This morning (July 14) at around 7.30am the fire service was still on scene “monitoring hotspots and extinguishing them”.
