HUNDREDS of people have gathered in Taunton today to pay their respect to Barnaby Webber.

Barnaby, 19, was killed in a stabbing incident in Nottingham last month.

The funeral is taking place this morning at Taunton Minster with around 600 people, including friends from Taunton School and the University of Nottingham, at the church.

Many more are outside the Minster as provisions were made for screens and audio outside the venue.

Road closures and parking restrictions are currently in place until 2pm to ensure the smooth running of the service:

• Magdalene Street;

• Church Square;

• Whirligig Lane;

• Hammet Street.

All parking along these streets is suspended for the duration of the event, as well as access to and from Whirligig Car Park.

Signage is in place to remind residents and road users of the restrictions and the public is asked to plan ahead.

Barnaby was killed in the early hours of June 13 in an unprovoked stabbing attack in Nottingham, where he was a first year student at the University of Nottingham.

At the time Barnaby had been walking home along Ilkeston Road with fellow university student Grace O’Malley-Kumar, 19, who was also killed.

PA agency reported: "Following his death, his parents David and Emma Webber, and younger brother Charlie, paid tribute to him, saying he was 'at the start of his journey into adulthood and was developing into a wonderful young man'."

A family spokesperson said: “His family welcome everyone from Taunton and beyond who wish to pay tribute to this wonderful young man.

“Barnaby’s family take great strength from all the support they have been receiving and say all who want to remember him are welcome.

“Barnaby was a Taunton boy through and through, and his family take great comfort in the care and support they have received from his hometown and beyond.”

Following the service, a private cremation will take place for the history student.
