POLICE are hoping to get the go ahead to close a shop in Taunton town centre that sells food and other items from Europe.

Detective Superintendent Mike Buck has applied to the courts for a closure order in relation to the European Shop, at 11 North Street.

The case, brought under Section 80 of the Anti-Social Behaviour Crime and Policing Act 2014, will be heard at Taunton Magistrates' Court tomorrow (Tuesday, July 18).

A notice in the window of the shop, which was not open when the County Gazette checked this morning (Monday), says police are seeking the closure order "due to nuisance or disorder associated with this premises".

It adds: "If the closure order is granted, the premises will be completely sealed and there will be no access to the premises as entering or remaining without reasonable excuse may be an offence and my be arrested."
