TAUNTON'S new Forkin Porkin store has taken the town by storm.

The store, which can be found in the Orchard Shopping Centre, has proved popular with hungry residents - yesterday, they even completely sold out.

Posting on Facebook on July 18, a spokesperson from the company said: "You cleared us out today!"

A good sign, surely?

We decided to try it for ourselves and make our own judgement. We were not disappointed.

The restaurant itself

We arrived at around 1pm, dead-on lunchtime. Complete with pig characters and images of the food on the outside, the store is definitely eye-catching, and I imagine that a passerby would have a hard time not being intrigued.

Inside, the store looked clean and tidy, and we were greeted by a smiling member of staff on arrival.

Customers have the option to either sit in or takeaway, which could be especially useful for those just wanting a quick bite to eat during their lunch hour.

It seemed we got in at the right time, as a line began to form behind us as we were waiting for our food.

The food

As you would expect, Forkin Porkin's specialty is pork, whether it be pork boxes, pork baps, or pork wraps.

However, there is also the option to try pies, jacket potatoes, and baguettes.

I tried the 'Hog in a Wrap', complete with stuffing and apple sauce. As they made it in front of me, I did think to myself that it looked quite small, but they didn't hold back on the filling.

I also thought that it would be quite messy to eat, but again, I was wrong. The pork melted in the mouth and the stuffing added the perfect texture.

Priced at only £4.95, I thought it made for an ideal lunchtime meal.

Here's what my colleague, Lewis Wiseman, had to say: "I ordered the ‘Hog in a Box’ which comes with pulled pork, roast potatoes, gravy, stuffing, crackling and apple sauce.

"It costs £5.95 and was ready very quickly, as all the items are kept hot in a hot box in the front window of the shop.

"Portion-wise it was exactly what you would want for lunch. It filled me up, definitely, but more importantly, it satisfied me.

"I really enjoyed it. The pulled pork melted in the mouth and the crunch of the potatoes and crackling helped to create that roast dinner feel.

"The pulled pork is clearly the unique feature and rightly so. It was up there with the best roast pork I have had. Better than mum makes? Not sure I could say that.

"But I would recommend giving this meal a go, for lunch, or for an early dinner, it is exactly what you want.

"Hot, fresh and convenient roast dinner all for under £6. I will be back!"

There was also a sign up for Sausabangers coming soon...whatever they are, we will be sure to give them a try!

If you are getting tired of the same old Tesco's meal deal every lunchtime, I would definitely recommend Forkin Porkin.

Who knows, you might even find your new favourite food place!
