A SOMERSET housebuilder has raised more than £40,000 for a cancer charity also thanks to a charity golf day.

Barratt David Wilson Homes South West, currently building much-needed new housing across Somerset at Nerrols Grange in Taunton, Moorland Gate in Bishop’s Lydeard, and Delamare Park in Frome has raised £40,204 for Sarcoma UK over the past year.

Almost £20,000 came via its charity golf day which was attended by more than 130 guests including members of staff and contractors.

The team from Barratt David Wilson Homes South West has championed Sarcoma UK after one of their friends and colleagues, Tim Blythe, lost his life to soft tissue cancer in 2021 after battling the disease for eight years.

Ralph Hawkins, managing director for Barratt David Wilson Homes South West, said: “Throughout Tim’s illness, he was grateful for the care he received from Sarcoma UK and we wanted to continue to support the charity in his memory.

“To have raised more than £40,000 over the past year is a terrific achievement and one that will help Sarcoma UK fund vital research, campaign for better treatments, and support people in our communities that are affected by Sarcoma and other uncommon cancers.”

Kerry Reeves-Kneip, director of Fundraising and Communications at Sarcoma UK, added: “We would like to thank the team at Barratt David Wilson Homes South West for raising these generous funds in memory of their friend, and colleague, Tim Blythe.

“Around 15 people in the UK are diagnosed with sarcoma every day, and these funds will help to provide vital research, information, and support.

“As an organisation, Sarcoma UK relies solely on generous voluntary donations and the energy and imagination of tireless fundraisers and supporters. We are grateful to the team and their efforts have made a real difference to the lives of the people we support.”
