A Somerset beach has been named among the best-kept secrets in the UK and a quieter alternative to more busier coastline spots.

St Audries Bay has been featured in a new list from the Telegraph, going through the best options for those wanting to avoid the UK's busiest beaches this summer.

The Telegraph says: "So before you resign yourself to spending the busiest days of the summer at home, pack up the cool bag, grab the bucket and spade and make a break for one of these appealing alternatives just a pebble’s throw from the crowded big hitters."

St Audries Bay is seen as a more peaceful option compared to the nearby busier beach of Burnham-on-Sea.

What did The Telegraph say about St Audries Bay?

The Telegraph was complimentary about St Audries Bay, praising it for its "natural beauty".

They said: "Somerset’s short coastline has some little-known alternatives to resorts like Burnham-on-Sea.

"St Audries Bay, at the foot of the Quantock Hills, is a wide bay of sand, shingle, pebbles, and rocks. The sea is not the clearest but there are two waterfalls at the edge of the beach, which give it a natural beauty."

In terms of a place to stay, the newspaper recommended the nearby Home Farm Holiday Centre.

There have been some positive reviews for the bay on The Beach Guide website with one person saying: "Despite coming this way for the past 15 years this was the first time we visited St Audries Bay.

"I read some poor reviews so was a little sceptical but with the sun shining we had a magical afternoon there i would well recommend."

Another put: "This beach is pretty good for having a dip in. A bit seaweedy but we had a lovely dip in there a few weeks ago."

Meanwhile, another wrote: "Absolutely beautiful, could of sat there for hours".
