A SPECTACULAR display of shooting stars is set to be visible from Exmoor National Park on Sunday, August 13 - providing it's a cloud free night.
That's when Perseids Meteor Shower will be gracing our skies and through its designation as an International Dark Sky Reserve, Exmoor, away from city lights and pollution, is an ideal place to catch the breathtaking view, writes Sky Fern.
Neill Sanders, an amateur astronomer enthusiast and founder of Go Stargazing, said: "The best place to see the Perseids Meteor Shower is any location with clear, uninterrupted views of the skies away from trees and tall buildings.’’
Jo Richardson, a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society, and founder of the Space Detectives, said: "Head out somewhere dark.
"Exmoor National Sky Reserve is ideal, as light pollution levels are strictly controlled here.’’
The best time to catch the meteor show is around 2am on August 13, although shooting stars should become visible as soon as darkness falls.’
Jo added that before watching the event, allow your eyes to night adapt so you can see the fainter meteors.
Do not use your phones and if you need a torch, make sure it is a red light as this will not affect your night vision.
