RESURFACING works in Langport are being suspended for 24 hours due to a forecast of heavy rain.

Carried out by Somerset Council's highways teams, the resurfacing work on sections of the A378 North Street, in Langport, and the A372 Somerton Road, in Huish Episcopi, started on Monday, July 24.

Work was supposed to take place for six days between 6.30pm and 11.30pm. However, due to a forecast of heavy rain for this afternoon and throughout the evening, work won't be able to take place today (Wednesday, July 25).

Cllr Mike Rigby, Somerset Council’s executive lead member for transport and digital, said: “Resurfacing roads that need it is a critical part of our summer programme. Residents will be aware both roads are in need of urgent repair.

“While there is some short-term disruption, these works in both Langport and Huish Episcopi will make journeys in the area safer for years to come."
