WIVEY Show is being held at Wiveliscombe Rec on Saturday, August 19, after a successful return last year following a 46-year hiatus.

The event, sponsored by The Bear Inn, which has provided marquees to house the exhibits.

The show will feature competitive classes including flowers, vegetables, handicraft, cookery, a children’s section plus art and photography.

Schedules are available throughout the town or entries can be submitted via www.wiveyshow.co.uk.

There will also be many side shows and an increased number of stalls, with plenty of children’s competitions and activities as well as refreshments including cream teas and lots for all the family to enjoy.

Chairperson Kirsty Boutflower said: “We were thrilled last year that the show was so well received by the local community and hugely indebted to The Bear for its most generous sponsorship and support.

"This year local health and safety consultancy IHTC, based in Ford, has stepped in to offer the fantastic prize for the child scoring the highest points in the children’s section - a family day out to Harry Potter World.”

Cookery section judge William Sitwell returns to sample Wivey’s finest bakes and creations while a new poetry section for adults and children will be judged by local author Ally Kennen.

Music will again be provided by Wivelele and the Wiveliscombe Town Band, as well as the town Wind Band and High Park.

Other attractions include Punch and Judy, Welly Wanging, Splat the Rat, pin the tail on Dorothy the donkey and Madame Helene and her tarot readings.

There will be a demonstration from Blue Shed Flowers, basket weaving by Secret Islands as well as a cookery demonstration.

And show mascot Wandering Wanda is back - look out for her in the programme to win a prize.

Kirsty added: “We are looking forward to many more entries now that so many people are aware of how much fun it is to enter and you may end up winning a class or even a cup.

"New classes such as 'The Vegetable that went Wrong' have been added so that people realise it’s all a bit of fun and anyone can have a go.”

Entries close on Saturday, August 12 via North Street Garden Shop in Wiveliscombe or online via www.wiveyshow.co.uk where the full schedule can be viewed as well as the rules and numbers to call for any enquiries.

The Show opens at 12pm until 5pm and admission is via programme which are numbered and will be on sale on entry and there will be a £50 prize to one lucky person.

Parking is limited to disabled visitors, so use Croft Road car park. Obly service dogs are allowed on the Rec.
