THE M5 came to a standstill near Taunton Deane Services at 8pm yesterday (Monday August 29) as an overturned vehicle saw traffic held in both directions.

Bank holiday commuters were stationary for 30 minutes until the incident was cleared.

Emergency services attended the scene, including several police cars and the presence of a police helicopter.

Inrix, a traffic monitoring service, revealed a hay trailer had overturned between junction 26 and junction 25 near Wellington and Taunton: "All traffic being temporarily held due to overturned hay trailer on M5 in both directions from J26 A38 (Wellington) to J25 A358 (Taunton)."

All lanes opened as soon as the incident was responded to at around 8:30pm on Monday evening.

Long queues remained in the aftermath of the inicident however, and were not cleared until almost an hour later at around 9:30pm, according to Inrix.
