A MINEHEAD care home has been praised for its commitment to exceptional care following a 'good' rating in all areas by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

The report by the independent regulator of health and social care in England described The Winsor Nursing Home, which provides nursing, dementia and palliative care to elderly residents, as “well-led” with a “positive culture” that is person-centred, open and inclusive.

The CQC, which inspects to check if a health and social care service is safe, responsive and well-led, visited the home to review records and consult with residents, families and staff.

The inspection report praised the positive team morale, commenting how the “happy and friendly” staff create a nice atmosphere for residents to live in, while ensuring visitors feel welcome.

It commended the high quality of care, which ensures residents have personalised care plans and are supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives.

Inspectors praised the home's “happy environment”, highlighting the consistent high level of care that has improved residents’ “physical and mental wellbeing”.

Since its last inspection, the home has appointed a new activities co-ordinator who regularly implements group and individual activities for residents, such as dog therapy and entertainment from local musicians.

The report detailed positive feedback from relatives and residents, with one resident saying: “Everything is wonderful really. Nothing is ever too much trouble for the staff."

The positive rating of The Winsor Nursing Home reflects owner Sanctuary Care’s commitment to enriching the lives of its residents, loved ones and staff.

Home manager Jo Hazell said: “We are so pleased with the results from the latest CQC inspection.

"Our devoted team are committed to delivering high standards of care to our residents, looking beyond their physical and emotional needs to ensure residents feel content, enriched and fulfilled each and every day.

"We are really proud that this has been formally recognised with our 'good' rating.”

Sanctuary Care, which has delivered care to older people since 1995, has a number of homes across England and Scotland providing quality residential, dementia, nursing, respite, day and palliative care.
