THE closure of a second West Somerset post office has been announced on social media.

A Facebook post last week said there would be no post office services in Watchet "until further notice".

The news comes as Alcombe Newsagent and Post Office in Minehead prepares to close on Saturday (September 9).

Kayla Garner, who worked in Watchet's Swain Street outlet for four years, said that although the post office side of the business "is gone", the retail side of it is still open.

She posted on Facebook: "As the Subpostmaster was still Mark, the Post Office in Watchet will be finished as well.

"I want to also state that The Post Office is gone but its premises will not be shut down - the retail side of Watchet Post Office is still open for business.

"It will no longer be a Post Office however. I want to thank each and every one of you for your support and I personally am sorry for the outcome of Watchet Post Office!

"I loved my job and I had the tremendous pleasure of serving each and every one of you for the 4 years I worked there."

It follows a previous post on the same site saying: "I regret to inform you all that Kayla has left Watchet Post Office, so there are no Post Office services until further notice.

"I am sorry for any inconvenience this has caused!"

A Post Office spokesperson said: “Watchet Post Office has been temporarily run and that branch closed with immediate effect due to the resignation of the Postmaster.

"The vacancy for a permanent Postmaster has already been advertised and we have an interested retailer.

"This is at an early stage and if this application does not progress for any reason we will readvertise the vacancy.

"In the interim alternative branches include Williton and Washford.

“The same Postmaster has also resigned from operating Alcombe Post Office and this branch will close this Saturday.

"We are currently reviewing service provision for Alcombe.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused by these unplanned closures. Alternative branches for Alcombe are Avenue and Dunster.”
