EVENTS to help key workers in Somerset get onto or up the property ladder are taking place at three new housing developments this weekend (Saturday and Sunday, September 16 and 17).

NHS, teachers, police and fire services, MOD, local authorities, probation and prison services, environmental service and national highways staff will be eligible for exclusive offers at Barratt Homes’ Delamare Park in Frome; David Wilson Homes’ Moorland Gate in Bishops Lydeard; and Nerrols Grange in Taunton.

No appointments are needed for the events from 10am to 5.30pm and which build on the housebuilders’ commitment to support key workers by extending its Deposit Contribution scheme, making help available for key workers for reservations until December 15.

Under the scheme, key workers receive a £1,000 deposit contribution for every £20,000 of a home’s purchase price - for instance, a property costing £325,000 means key workers qualify for a contribution of £16,250. Free flooring is also included. Any key worker that reserves a new home this weekend will also receive a TV worth up to £1,000 when they complete.

During the first six months of the year, Barratt David Wilson Homes South West has helped 34 key workers buy their own homes with deposits totalling more than £650,000.

Louise Ware, sales director, said: “As a thank you for our essential frontline workers, this weekend’s events are the perfect opportunity for key workers to visit our developments in Somerset and find out how we can tailor an incentive package to help make their first - or next – move in a brand new, energy efficient home happen.”

All 82 homes at Delamare Park are fitted with air source heat pumps as standard and electric car charging for every home, more than three acres of open space and measures to support local wildlife including 178 new trees, hedgehog highways and an ecological boundary preserved for nature.

Nerrols Grange and Moorland Gate, which include a range of three and four bedroom homes, are surrounded by six acres of open space where many homes benefit from uninterrupted views of the nearby countryside, with some overlooking the stunning Quantock Hills.

Moorland Gate is within walking distance of the village primary school, shops and pubs.

At Nerrols Grange, there’s on-site allotments, a play area, a primary school and a nursery.
