AN EVENING of techno and electronic music for charity is set to go ahead in Shepton Mallet this Saturday.

Bar 501 will be the venue for the event which will see nine acts get behind the decks to showcase their DJing skills from 4pm until midnight on September 23.

MSS01, organised primarily by Ciaran Jones, will raise money as part of a wider charity fundraiser for Cancer Support UK.

The local fundraising group named the Manic Street Screechers have already raised over £3,500 for the UK cancer charity through various events, and will cap things off with a charity skydive next month.

Ciaran, a member of the group who will also be performing at MSS01, said: “We’ve got a great range of nationwide and locally sourced talents, at a very cheap cost, for a good cause.”

Music performed at the event will be a mixture  of speed garage, techno, bassline,  and drum & bass.

Those hoping to attend are advised to bring cash for a raffle with prizes from local businesses.

These prizes include:

  • Handmade jewellery from Foraged Steel
  • Boyce Potter ceramics
  • Three Kathryn Pow prints
  • Mulled wine
  • A pot plant
  • A voucher for the Art Bank cafe
  • A voucher for coffee and cake at Loaf cafe in Wells
  • £25 Pond Life voucher
  • And other mega prizes to be revealed at the event

Bar 501, known to locals as "the gin bar" will be closed off exclusively for the charity event from 5pm onwards, serving £4 pints as well as a range of cocktails.

Tickets will be available on the door for £6, or to purchase in advance for £5 by contacting Ciaran via email at ciaran.flava.cardiff@gmail.com.

The music will begin at 4pm, but tickets are required from 5pm onwards.

For those who can't attend, donations to the Manic Street Screechers fundraiser can be made on their official JustGiving page.
