TAUNTON Crown Court is currently closed to allow “repairs and planned renovations”.
The Combined Court (crown and county court) building, the Shire Hall, was “temporarily closed” last Friday (September 15), the Somerset County Gazette understands.

A letter seen by the Gazette explained that the decision to close the site was made after a floor survey carried out as part of ongoing maintenance works at Shire Hall.
All scheduled cases have been moved to other Somerset courts, a Ministry of Justice spokesperson said.
The spokesperson also said: “Taunton Combined Court has been closed while repairs and planned renovations are undertaken and we will update on its reopening date in due course.
“All scheduled cases have been moved to alternative Somerset courts and there is no disruption as a result.”
The maintenance project started back in February 2022 and in April 2023 a decision was taken to close the site temporarily and move the work to other sites, but the flooring inspection meant the closure was brought forward.
While the building is closed, public counter service will now be at Taunton Magistrates’ Court, St John’s Road, Taunton, TA1 4AX.
