OVER 125 supporters come together to complete a 4km walk in Tauntonin memory of loved ones and in celebration of the care provided by the hospice.
Supporters came from as far as Birmingham and Leicestershire to take part in this special event on the doorstep of the Taunton Hospice in Longrun Meadow last Sunday.
Friends and families walked side by side along the picturesque route proudly wearing their sunflowers and dedication bibs, with many being accompanied by their four-legged friends.
Supporters were welcomed back over the finish line by St Margaret’s bee mascot, Busy, and enjoyed a delicious afternoon cream tea, and scrumptious cakes which were generously donated by Mademoiselle Desserts.
Families and friends relaxed on the hospice’s grounds and enjoyed music from Kelly Dale and Steve Davies as they placed sunflower memory markers in the garden in tribute to their loved ones.
The stroll brought the community together and raised vital funds for the hospice’s Sunflower Centre Day Hospice in Taunton which provides specialist support to patients, helping them to build coping strategies, maximising their independence, and enhancing their quality of life.
Louise Comley, a patient who is currently receiving support from St Margaret’s Sunflower Centre Day Hospice in Taunton, took part in the stroll.
She said: “The walk was beautiful. I managed to make it all the way around the route, which was a big achievement for me and not something I could have done without the help of the hospice's Sunflower Day Centre and the support they've given me.
“The scenery along the route was stunning and the cream tea, prosecco and live music in the hospice garden was lovely. We enjoyed some quality time together as a family.
“It also felt amazing to know that we were raising vital funds for the hospice which has made such a difference to me, and I’m so pleased the event was such a success.”
As of the latest count, this year’s Taunton stroll has successfully raised over £5,500, and more donations are expected in the coming days.
The event was proudly sponsored by Greenshutters Garden Centre and comes just weeks after St Margaret’s hosted its Yeovil Sunflower Stroll.
Combined these two events have raised over £11,500 and funds will go a long way in supporting the hospice to provide vital care and support to those in need within the community.
Amy Garland, Head of Engagement and Marketing expressed her heartfelt gratitude to all the participants, volunteers, and local businesses for their tremendous support, without which this event would not have been possible.
"We are absolutely delighted with the amazing response we’ve had to this year's Sunflower Stroll events,” Amy explained.
“The support we've received from our community has been remarkable, and it was wonderful to see so many people coming together from far and wide to remember their loved ones and support the hospice.
“The funds raised will make a significant difference to the lives of our patients at our Sunflower Day Hospice Centres and help us to be there for them, whenever they need us.”
