THIS is the latest image showing the devastation caused by last week's huge blaze at Taunton's recycling centre on the Crown Industrial Estate in Priorswood.

The fire broke out in the early hours a week ago today on Tuesday, October 3. Fortunately no one was injured. Dozens of firefighters battled for hours to contain the fire.

The recycling site remains closed until further notice due to concerns it is structurally unsafe, but kerbside recycling and refuse collections will be working as normal.

Site staff have been redeployed to help with other sites, this includes opening Wellington and Bridgwater on their usual closed days.

As the image from Somerset Council Waste Services shows, the fire is still burning.

A spokesperson for the organisation said: "Once the damage can be assessed, teams will work hard to make the recycling site safe for public access.

"At the moment Taunton Recycling Site will remain closed until further notice. Thank you for your understanding."

The fire badly damaged the Material Recovery Facility building.
