DEMOLITION work is underway on an unsafe building following a massive fire at Taunton Recycling Centre earlier this month.

Specialist equipment has been transported to the site on the Crown Industrial Estate, off Priorswood Road.

A spokesperson for Somerset Council Waste Services said the project involves safely taking down the material recycling facility.

They added: "As soon as its safe, we will reopen the recycling site.

Dozens of firefighters battled the fire after it broke out on the site in the early hours October 3.

Smoke could be seen right across town and from the M5 and small fires continued to burn for a number of days.

No one was injured in the incident.

The recycling site has remained closed ever since, with sites in Bridgwater and Wellington opening seven days a week to take recycling the public would normally have taken to Taunton
