PROPOSALS have been revealed to demolish a large home in a picturesque village on the edge of Taunton and replace it with four homes.
Tallwood Homes wants to bulldoze the six-bedroom mansion at Kirkmeead, off Manor Road, in Staplegrove, and replace it with four four-bedroom properties.
Two of the first floor bedrooms would be en-suite, while the ground floor would contain a large kitchen/dining space, living room and snug.
The new development, if it is approved by planners at Somerset Council, would be called St John's Mews, a nod to the nearby St John's Church.
Each of the two-storey homes would also have a garage and two parking spaces and would feature electric vehicle charging points, air source heat pump and solar roof panels.
The plans submitted to the council also outline mitigation to avoid creating more phosphate pollution ending up on the Somerset Levels.
The current property is partially within the Staplegrove conservation area and boasts extensive gardens and a storage building.
By today (Friday, November 3) three residents of the village had submitted objections to the proposals, with one expressing concerns about the "harm" the scheme would cause to "the prevailing character of the area" and "the detrimental impact on traffic safety, the local community and conservation".
