LOCAL learning disabilities and autism support worker Alex Roland came away with two accolades from the recent Care and Support West awards at Ashton Gate stadium, Bristol, on Friday (November 3).

Alex, who was representing Love Community CIC, of which he is one of five directors, scooped the Community Based Frontline Worker and Community Based Organisation of the Year titles for his GameChanger project, which uses video games and gaming to bring neuro diverse adults together across Somerset.

His sessions have been running in Taunton, Bridgwater and Yeovil since June 2022 and have seen more than 4,000 visitors attend more than 150 sessions, which people socialise, learn and exercise using video games as the catalyst.

Alex was one of more than 250 entries submitted and the awards were attended by more than 450 people.

He said: “We were blown away to win not one but two awards against such stiff competition from some incredible carers and care organisations.

"We are so proud to accept these awards not just for ourselves but our amazing volunteers and the folk who attend GameChanger.”

GameChanger sessions are run in Taunton and Yeovil libraries and the Engine Room in Bridgwater .
