A Yeovil apprentice has scooped a coveted national industry award.

Marcus Mullins, a craft apprentice at Leonardo in Yeovil, has won the Apprentice of the Year prize at the Composites UK Industry Awards held in Birmingham earlier this month.

Joining Leonardo in September 2021, Marcus spends his days preparing rotor blades for production and carrying out repairs.

The Gryphon School alumni has garnered praise from his manager and peers at Leonardo.

Mr Mullins said: "It is fantastic to receive this prize as it gives me a real sense of achievement.

"I have always had an interest in helicopters from a young age, and when I first applied for my apprenticeship at Leonardo I knew there would be a lot of competition, so I was really happy and relieved when I learned I had been accepted for a place on the scheme."

His manager, Jason Rousell, spoke highly of Marcus Mullins.

Mr Rousell said: "We are delighted that Marcus has been recognised with this award, as he is a very valued member of our team.

"He is always looking for ways he can pick up tasks to help us achieve our monthly deliveries."

Looking forward to his future, Marcus Mullins aims to make his mark on the production line and land a management role.

He said: "I really like taking a hands-on approach where I can make positive changes that will make things easier for people working on our production line."
