A MOTORIST from Wellington has been found guilty of speeding by magistrates.

The case against Melvin Wheeler, 64, was proved in his absence at Taunton Magistrates' Court on Friday (November 17).

The court was told that Wheeler, of Gregorys Crescent, was clocked doing 39mph in a 30mph zone on the A361 at Whitstone Hill, Pilton, on January 16 this year.

He was fined £220 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £88 and a contribution of £400 towards Crown Prosecution Service costs.

His driving licence was endorsed with three penalty points.

The court ruled that his total court bill of £708 should be paid by Friday, December 15.
