AN exciting new pet guest house will open its doors in Somerset this Monday, but this is far from your ordinary kennels.

Wags & Whiskers Pet Hotel & Spa (found in East Huntspill, Highbridge) is a luxurious spot for furry friends to spend a few nights whilst their owners are on holiday.

Owner Dean Murphy purchased the Brent Farm land about four years ago, and sparked the idea for the pet paradise whilst at the pub with a close friend.

He initially thought nothing of the idea, but then realised it had legs, and spent two years researching the local kennels in the Somerset area.

"It became apparent that a higher calibre facility was needed," Dean explained.

"I felt that there was a niche for it.

"They’re not dogs, they're a family member really."

Fast forward to the present day, and Wags & Whiskers is ready for its grand opening on Monday November 27.

Inside, dog owners will find 23 luxury rooms, made up of two presidential suites, two executive suites, and 19 deluxe suites.

Each is equipped with innovative infrared heating panels, ceiling fans, thick walls and windows to reduce noise, a luxury soft bed, a speaker to play calming music, and a CCTV camera for loving owners to access a 24/7 livestream of their pet.

Every suite has its own large outdoor area, one which can be immediately accessed at all times, and another even larger personal section of grass which guests can be escorted to by staff.

There is also a large communal field for dogs who enjoy a bit of company.

As well as being larger and beautifully decorated, the most expensive rooms include a TV for the most pampered pooches.

Dogs staying at the pet hotel can enjoy a wash and blow dry in the bespoke grooming room.

A hydro-pool and spa area complete with water treadmill is currently in the works, and owner Dean Murphy hopes it will be open within the next six months.

A doggy day care centre which Dean described as "a bit like a play group for dogs" is also hoped to be open for use imminently.

Those with small pets can book in at the small animal facility, which is already accepting animals like rabbits, guinea pigs, and even lizards.

A facility to accommodate cats is also well underway.

If that wasn't enough, Wags & Whiskers Pet Hotel & Spa offer a chauffer service running to and from Bristol Airport - meaning holiday-goers can simply drive to the airport and arrange for their pet to be picked up at departures, and return from their trip with their pet back at the airport ready and waiting for them.

They can also drop off and pick up pets within a 40 mile radius of the site's location in East Huntspill.

"Quality is what people are looking for, and that’s what we offer," affirmed Dean.
