POLICE have confirmed that an elderly man died following a collision that closed the A303 for several hours yesterday (Thursday, November 23).
The man, who was in his 70s, appears to have fallen before being struck by a van.
Paramedics attended the incident, but sadly he was pronounced dead at the scene.
An Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson said: "His family, who are being supported by a specially trained family liaison officer, have been informed and our thoughts are with them.

"Both the A303 and A358 were closed to allow enquiries to take place but reopened yesterday afternoon.
"We want to thank residents for their patience."
Police have launched an investigation into the collision which took place between the Southfields roundabout for Ilminster and Shave Lane, Horton, shortly after 4.30am.
The force spokesperson added: "As part of the investigation, we want to hear from anyone who was travelling along this stretch of road in either direction at approximately 4.15am yesterday.
