A TAUNTON road was closed overnight (Monday into Tuesday, November 27-28) due to a burst water main.

Wessex Water was called in to carry out essential repairs to the stretch of Mountway Road.

The road is undergoing extensive carriageway patching this week, leading to daytime closures throughout the week between 7.30am and 6pm from yesterday until Thursday.

But it had been due to reopen yesterday evening until this morning before the burst main.

Diversions are in place during the work, with Somerset Council advising that its workforce will ensure disruption is kept to a minimum.

A council spokesperson said: "We suggest if you use these roads at these times, you please plan to give yourselves more time for your journey(s).

"Buses that usually use Mountway Road, including those to and from the Silk Mills Park and Ride, will follow the diversion route, and this will add a few minutes to journey times.

"We appreciate the vast majority of the public are considerate and respectful to contractors and we’re grateful for everyone’s patience and understanding. Please remember our team is there to carry out essential work to these roads."
