POLICE are hunting a man who smashed the windows of 13 cars during a frenzied hammer attack near Morrisons supermarket in Taunton.

He damaged the cars and vans parked in a staff parking area in Dellers Wharf used by a number of businesses in Station Road.

Officers attended the scene immediately after being called just after 5pm yesterday (Wednesday, December 6).

But by then the suspect had left, leaving a trail of destruction.

The damaged vehicles included BMW, Ford, Honda, Jaguar, Mini, Mercedes, Nissan, Vauxhall and Volkswagen makes.

The suspect is described as white, 6ft 2in tall and stocky. He was wearing a long white coat.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson said: "Police were called just after 5pm on Wednesday 6 December to a car park in Dellers Wharf, Taunton, following a report of someone smashing car windows with a hammer.

"Officers attended immediately, but the suspect had left the scene, leaving 13 vehicles damaged, of makes including BMW, Ford, Honda, Jaguar, Mini, Mercedes, Nissan, Vauxhall and Volkswagen.

"The suspect is described as a white man about 6ft 2ins tall and stocky who was wearing a long white coat.

"The damaged cars and vans were parked in a staff parking area used by a number of businesses on Station Road.

"Police are keen to trace anyone who witnessed the incident who has not yet spoken with them, or who may have dashcam or other footage which could help the investigation."
