Fire crews have been tackling a fire at a house on St Thomas Street in Wells overnight.

Three engines were sent at around 10.30 last night, (December 9), from Wells, Shepton Mallet and Street following reports of smoke issuing from a property on St Thomas Street in Wells.

Crews fought the fire with breathing apparatus, one CO2 extinguisher and one hose reel jet to identify and establish what is on fire. The cause of the fire was a consumer unit, no injuries have been reported.

A spokesman for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue said: "This was a fire involving an consumer unit within a shared corridor. The fire damage was confined and there was no further fire spread. This has been checked by crews cutting away around the consumer unit to ensure everything is safe.

National grid are in attendance isolating and making the area safe. All flats within the property have been ventilated. In total, crews used 4 breathing apparatus, 1 hose reel jet, 1 safety jet and 1 CO2 extinguisher. Crews confirmed this to be accidental ignition. These are the full and final details.
