Taunton School students took to the stage alongside professional actors during a Christmas production at The Brewhouse.

Brothers Zachary and Barnaby Roberts, aged 14 and 11, and Arthur Wilkinson, 14, successfully auditioned for a new version of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol last summer.

They were part of a 24-strong local youth ensemble in the musical, which opened in early December, rehearsing since autumn.

The play, sponsored by Taunton School, was directed by West End theatre director Scott Le Crass.

It was the first time the school had sponsored The Brewhouse, enabling involvement from more regional youngsters.

Zachary Roberts played young Scrooge, a rag and bone man, and Peter Cratchit.

Barnaby Roberts starred as Tiny Tim, and Arthur Wilkinson also portrayed Peter Cratchit.

In reference to his experience, Mr Roberts said: "It was an amazing experience.

"I am so thankful to have had this opportunity to work with a director and actors who have worked in London’s West End.

"It’s so much more than anything you can do in school or even local theatre."

Showing gratitude towards his school, Mr Wilkinson shared: "It was my teachers who inspired me to do this.

"If I hadn’t come to this school and met my teachers I would not be in this production.

"They are brilliant and really know what they are doing."
