A POPULAR house and gardens in Taunton has launched a cost-friendly entry fee scheme for those of us struggling with money after the festive period.

Hestercombe Gardens announced today (Tuesday, January 2) that visitors will only have to pay what they can in order to access the stunning historic grounds as part of the 'Pay what you can this Jan' scheme.

The offer is in effect from Monday to Friday between January 2 until January 31.

A spokesperson for Hestercombe Gardens said: "We understand that many might be financially struggling especially after Christmas, so we hope that this initiative will help towards you still being able to benefit from visiting our beautiful gardens."

The house's history dates back almost 1,000 years, as a stone archway on the site dates back to around the year 1280.

The stunning gardens were first referenced to in 1249, in a medieval document which reads: ‘my Lord of Hestercombe’s garden’.
