A GROUP of 200 people braved the chilly Bristol Channel off Minehead on New Year's Day.
They raised over £5,500 for St Margaret's Hospice in the charity's third annual dip.
There were plenty of fancy dress costumes, including a Star Wars Stormtrooper, John Travolts flares and a banana at the 10am wade in the waves.
All funds raised from the event contribute to St Margaret’s Hospice Care, with families and friends participating in groups of five raising a minimum of £50.
That sum can cover the cost of an hour of specialist nursing care for someone in need on the In-Patient Unit.
Misti Bliss, member of Minehead Mermaids, said: "Once you’re in, it’s absolutely amazing, the thrill.
"And when you come out, you’re like 'Yes'.”
Post-swim, Nelly’s Nosh provided free hot breakfast items.
The event was sponsored by Wilkie May & Tuckwood estate agents.
Merle Harrison-Croft, event manager at St Margaret's, said: "St Margaret’s is thankful for the dedication of every participant and their large group of spectators – whilst the weather was kind to us the waves were big, and watching every participant take the plunge, and enjoy the challenge was really inspiring.
“We’re delighted to have raised so much money for the hospice and anticipate that figure rising over the coming days and weeks as sponsorship continues to come in.”
