A KENYAN singer who was on The Voice UK regularly showcases his talent on the streets of Somerset.

Simon Sims, who lives in Glasgow and regularly visits family in the Somerset region, made it to the final call backs before ending his journey on the contest.

The Voice is a singing contest, judged in 2023 by will.i.am, Anne-Marie, Sir Tom Jones and Olly Murs.

Calling it a "really good experience", Simon said that he had possibly the "best time" of his life on the show.

In an update posted on his Facebook page, he said: "What an amazing experience this has been. Am I disappointed not going through to the semi finals, yes!

"Gutted? No, because I have had possibly the best time of my life doing The Voice.

"The opportunities and connections arising through this is promising. Thanks to everyone for rooting for me since my blind auditions, you guys are amazing.

"I'd like to thank BuskersofGlasgow who I think never get enough credit for supporting buskers here in Glasgow.

"The Voice UK staff were amazing and looked after us every minute and made us so comfortable on set.

"I will always remember this experience! This is just the beginning for me."

Simon, who sings both originals and covers, told the Somerset County Gazette that as a child he was part of the Singing Children of Africa group, which aims to raise money for children in Kenya to receive an education.

Simon still remembers his time with the group. A social media post written by him reads: "At the age of 10, Educate the Kids gave me a chance to go to school.

"A charity based in Kenya, it was started by a wonderful couple Maureen and Ian McIntyre. Maureen started a choir called the Singing Children of Africa in 2006.

"She brought us to the UK to sing so we can raise funds to help the other many unfortunate kids in Africa! It’s clear to say she done so well and am very grateful for her every day."

Simon said that his favourite type of songs to sing are from the 70s and 80s eras, such as iconic tracks from Abba.

Simon has been known to busk in Taunton and Bridgwater, to name a few.
